| Converting an ImageAXS Database (or any database that can export data) to Thumbs Up
Export a Comma Separated Values (.csv) file of your ImageAXS data: Open the .csv file in Excel: ![]() |
Note that column L (12th) has the image file name. Save this file as an Excel Worksheet .xls and then save it (Save As...) as a tab delimited text file. Close the.xls Excel file and then open again in Excel to see that the new text file imports into Excel properly and that all the columns line up. This means scrolling down through your data to be sure that an extra tab didn't throw a column off (and every record thereafter, sometimes). If there is a problem, you can delete a cell or cells or row to shift things back in line. Go to the Master Collection in Thumbs Up and select Import Tool from the Import /Export menu and select the tab delimited file that you created with Excel. (Sample.txt in this example). You will need to select "Image" as the import table (General comes up as the default). Do not check the Create Table box!. Usually, Append is the proper selection for Records. This file will not have a header row, so you will want to import from line one (default setting under the Header tab). The Delimiters defaults to tab delimited. Go down to the 12th column and set to import into Field1. This is not absolutely necessary, because you can specify which field Thumbs Up should user to autoattach images, but Field1 is where Thumbs Up puts the file name as a default when you import image files, so this will match other records added to Thumbs Up in the normal fashion. Since the filenames in this field have the .jpg suffix, you do not need to specify a suffix in the second autoattach dialog. Now you need to go back and set the field into which the other columns import. If you want to import numbers and dates into Thumbs Up number and date fields you can choose these from the pop-up selection as well. You can name the fields later. In this example, we have started with Field2 and gone through Field 20 in the order the data appears. With Thumbs Up, you can always copy or move contents of a field to another field. And you can do this as a batch copy for tens of thousands of records at once using Copy Field from the Master Collection Modify menu. (Pro, Extreme, or Enterprise version). |
Thumbs Up imports the records and they appear in the Master Collection (list view): Now go to the Import/Export menu again and select Autoattach Image Files... ![]() The records are updated as Thumbs Up locates all the files in the folder selected (as well as any subfolders therein). Voila! you now have complete Thumbs Up records. ![]() |
